Hello! I am Craig Barnhart, a BMW Airhead (motorcycle) Enthusiast. I share knowledge to give folks confidence to work on their bike and enjoy riding because of a deeper connection to the machine. While I am sharing, I learn a lot from others, so it goes both ways!
I have been riding motorcycles since I was in the Air Force stationed in California in 1983, and started with a 1973 Honda CB200T. I remember seeing my first BMW motorcycle when a fellow airman purchased one for $5,000, which was a lot of money back then. My USAF vocation was Electronic Warfare Systems technician, and I gained a lot of electronic troubleshooting experience.
I rode Hondas and Yamahas until a BMW Airhead caught my eye in 2016, the first old BMW I saw since the ’80s. It was at a BMW rally in Cass VA. The next year, I was at an antique motorcycle meet with my friend and Indian motorcycle restorer, whom I had assisted in restorations for a couple years prior. I saw a 1982 BMW R100 with a Hannigan fairing and thought it was both ugly and cool at the same time. I called the guy the next day, and we made a deal.
Soon afterward in 2017, I joined the Airheads.org and started participating in camping outings and tech days. I learned enough by working on the R100 and other Airhead acquisitions to begin presenting at a tech weekend called Supertech in 2019. I have been presenting at Supertech ever since, teaching and learning along the way.
