I saw an auction nearby on 4/8/2023, that had two BMW Airheads, a 1971 R75 /5 …

And a 1979 R100RT …

I most wanted the R75, but I was willing to bid on the R100RT.
So I set the max bids in my brain to $2100 for the R75 and $1100 for the R100RT.
My wife Nancy and drove to East Berlin PA, and the auction ensued.

Most of the small stuff went up for auction first, including Fred’s belt buckle that I learned later he earned riding the R100RT. I won it for $5.

Then it was time to auction the bikes.
Unfortunately for me, or so I thought, the R100RT went up first. So I said, OK here we go. I bid $500, it went to $600, then I bid $700. It stopped there. I won the bike and some extras like Fred’s maps and personal paraphernalia.

Then the R75 went up. I started again at $500, and I went back and forth with another bidder until he or she (I wasn’t watching) bid $2000. I bid my max $2100, and it stuck.
Nancy picked up a piece of furniture and other items. So I drove the van home unloaded the R75, then came back for the R100RT and Nancy’s stuff.

Because the R100RT had so much of a story I wanted to tell, I decided to keep it and offer the R75 to my friend Steve to either borrow or buy it (for what I paid). He decided to buy it and become a new Airhead.
Then we went to PennDOT for a title transfer debacle.
